Urquhart House
Mill Pond Road
1836

There were several outbuildings on the property that have been destroyed. There was a pig barn, two wagon houses, a garage, coal house and an ice house.

Architectural Comment

This two storey house was built in the vernacular style. Built 170 years ago, this is the second house that was built on this property. This house had four bedrooms upstairs and two bedrooms downstairs, a big kitchen, dining room, living room and hall. It had one fireplace, but was closed off. It has hardwood floors; the living room floor has a diamond design.

Contextual Comment

A memory that is shared by one of the children who grew up in the house is one of lots of music in the house. At Christmas time they held a Christmas concert in the house. Her father would build a stage in front of the bedroom and the children taking part would wait in the bedroom for their turn. All the neighbors from the community, Big Woods, Mill Pond and Point Aconi would come for the evening.
