MacKenzie House - Kempt Head

1860

This house was known for the dances held in its kitchen on Friday nights.

Architectural Comment

This house is simple Victorian in design and remains the same today as it was when first built. It has double hung windows and is shingled.

Contextual Comment

This house on Friday nights was the place to be for kitchen square dances. All the young people from the Kempt Head area would come on Friday nights and stay until the wee hours of the morning while local musicians provided the entertainment. This house has remained in the same family for close to 150 years. On a clear day from the front stoop of this house you can see all the way down the lake to Iona.
